My first project Logo idea is based around promoting a ladies shoe brand. The idea itself came from my own obsession with footwear and the notion that a logo should represent something simplistic and recognisable. I wanted to use an image in my Logo that aesthetically works with text and represents the brand as glamorous, feminine and classic. The type of shoe I wanted to focus on was a high-heel, and this is because the shape is very specific and provides an area to work around with regards to text, compared to a flat pump or kitten-heel which doesn’t have an interesting shape or design.
My target audience for this Logo would be women aged 20-25, who are interested in fashion, current trends and seasons and most importantly enjoy buying shoes. The women I am targeting will be busy career-minded individuals, who would want to wear my brand at work, round the office and when socialising.
Links to Other Modules:
The idea of my logo is based around consumerism and this is something that links to other modules that I am studying. Theorising Media & Culture is a module that covers a huge range of topics e.g. mass culture, discourse and gender, all of which can be applied to consumerism and specifically women’s fashion and lifestyle. This module also delves into mythology and the theorising of signs and meanings. An image of a high-heeled shoe can be presented as a sign with a particular meaning, including femininity, power, sexy women and dominance and these together create an ethos that I want my Logo to represent. The idea of powerful women link to a second module of mine, ‘Gender, sexuality and Popular Culture’ where I am studying the history of feminism and the transgression of sexuality, power and pleasure. The history of 3rd wave feminism can directly link to my Logo ethos of strong, independent women as it is this period of the 1990’s where ‘Girl Power’, female solidarity and the challenging of female stereotyping first came to light.
Presentation & Display:
To ensure my Logo is seen regularly by my target women, I would want it to be displayed on television adverts, online website banners and department stores. By researching where my target audience are most likely to work and socialise, I could present my logo in prime areas like high-end bars, London billboards, buses, tubes, trains and most importantly the high-street. My Logo would also be printed on the inside in the shoe and on the outside of the shoe-box.
